So what does it mean to be ‘mobile optimized’?Barrie Web develops Mobile Optimized websites.
It’s no mystery that mobile has gained tremendous ground in recent years. Technology has come a long way and with mobile responsive design you can now create one site that will re-size and re-stack automatically based on a users screen size. This type of design is built off of percentages and uses these percentages to scale down images and text in relation to the size of the screen. This type of design is wonderful because you no longer have to build a desktop site and a mobile site independent of each other. Which means no more updating content in two places.Does it really matter if my site works on a phone?
Yes! A recent study of nearly 50 countries (and 2/3 of the worlds population) estimated that roughly 70% of the time spent on the internet is spent on a mobile device, and this is projected to reach nearly 80% by the end of 20191. Consumers now spend more than 5 hours a day on their smart phones.

But I advertise, isn’t that enough?
Probably not if you want to see your business grow. Google conducted a study that found that people generally have 2X more interactions with brands on mobile than anywhere else (including TV, in-store, you name it)2. And if that’s not convincing enough, SocPub has stated that “57% of users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site”3.

How do I know how many of my visitors are coming from a mobile device vs. desktop?
If you have Google Analytics (also called GA) code on your website, this is easy information to access. GA is a free service, you just need the code installed on your website.  Once the code is installed it will give you very robust insight into who your visitors are (age, gender, income level etc.), where they come from, what device they are on, and what avenue they used to reach you (did they find you on Google, did they type in your website URL, did they click on a link to your site that was posted somewhere else, did they come from social media or an online ad etc.)

If I want a mobile optimized site, will it cost me an arm and a leg?
Nope. Barrie Web has spent the last decade building mobile responsive sites and we’ve gotten very efficient at it. Like with anything, the more customization you add, the more time (and ultimately money) it will take, but mobile responsive sites are extremely cost effective investments, especially when you factor in what it will do for your organic SEO, your user experience and lead generation.
